I have connected my PS3 to my router with RJ45-cable and not Wi-Fi but my laptop is connected thru Wi-Fi, can this be the problem?
I use wired connection with my PS because Im afraid of lag in multiplayer games. My super-old PC with win xp and WMP11 recognizes my PS3 but that old pc is connected with wire aswell.

I did everything you said and now my PS3 finds my PC, but I still cant find my PS3 from my PC. Really weird. I mean I can try to connect to my PC from my Playstation and it says that "its not registered, blah blah" but I cant find PS3 from that device list. Its really weird since there are plenty of other devices but no PS3 / Unkown Device OR any device matching my PS3's mac address.. Any tips?

THIS IS THE ANSWER TO MANY CONNECTIVITY ISSUES: If you cannot see the "unknown device" listed or when you click on "turn on media streaming" and nothing happens, DO THIS:

1. Navigate to: C:Users%userprofile%AppDataLocalMicrosoftMedia Player2. Delete all of the *.wmdb files 3. Try again. You should be smiling by now. :)
