Why I bought Canon Rebel EOS 500D / T1i / Kiss X3 /
Well first lets start with “why” I bought Canon Rebel T1i.
Off course when you go around and spent a hefty amount like $700, it would be for a purpose. I had my (subjective) reasons to chose this. And how often you all fell into a massive ambiguity of selecting a one between D5000 and 500D. Thing is both of them are great “mid-entry” level cameras. And one would literally have to be really comparative to select either of them as both just knocks off each other by very minute amount.
Here are my reasons why I bought Canon Rebel T1i.
- With photography in mind and when you are with that zeal in taking the best images possible, you have to certainly consider to upgrade your lenses later or sooner. Though both of the cameras offer a decent enough kit lens, but they are really bottle-necking the juices that either of the cameras give out. Canon had a vast variety of lenses and are really cheap as well sharper compared to their competitors. In fact one of the lens just start at $99 (EF 50mm f/1.8). Another thing that inclined me towards Canon Rebel T1i was the fact that its compatible with both EF & EF-S lenses. So if you get a deal of those primitive EF lenses, they will work on this camera.
- Amazing LCD, For a mid-entry level DSLR this is the only one which offers 3″ 920 K dots LCD screen.
- View finder with a magnification factor of 0.87x
- HD video recording capabilities 1280×720 @ 30 frames per second compared to Nikon D5000 @ 24 frames per second. Also Canon Rebel T1i offers Full HD video recording capabilities but at slower frame rate of 20 fps.
- Better live view when compared to Nikon D5000
As well D5000 has its unique features which 500D lacks and hence it was really a subjective choice to select 500D.
But taking a peep into my 1st camera buying selection it appears really amusing how my choices kept on changing from time to time.
And hence this is “How” I bought Canon Rebel T1i.
Before writing this entry (just a week ago) I was in so much dilemma of getting a one between D5000 and 500D. But then I went by my gut feeling and purchased the one which I liked at first sight (in DSLR) i.e Canon 500D. .
Having no previous camera (not even P&S) I always had great liking for photography. With the basic bookish knowledge I’d regarding camera and way of photography, at first I was so inclined to SONY Cyber shot H-20 B. For about a month I was checking its prices, youtube videos and related information. Now most of you think this camera is lame and for its from SONY which means you are certainly paying something more than its competitors. But believe me this is not the case with this camera. The image quality of this camera is awesome compared to its competitors and it also features HD video recording. The range starts from 35mm – 360mm and even at 360mm the stabilization that the camera offers is unmatched in its class. Only draw back was a lesser wide-angle view. But still the deal is worth for $279 and if you are lucky you could grab it for $230 or less.
Sooner I thought of increasing my budget and getting a semi-pro Point & Shoot which limited my choices to Canon SX1, Sony HX1, Olympus SP – 590 (super-zoom P&S). I would had almost bought Sony HX1 from Dell, if they had not increased the price to $499 from $419 on the day I decided to buy it. Again for those lame Sony haters this is a wonderful camera and it beats the image quality of Olympus E590 as well Canon SX20. HX1’s incredible features like Sweep Panorama, Burst of 10fps at full resolution, “almost” 1080p (1440*1080 @ 30fps) video recording and hand held Twilight features kept me drooling over it till the last week of November 2009.
But lately I figured out that I’m so interested in photography that I might wanna pursue the hobby towards professional level. At this moment I changed my plan towards DSLR and had a thorough reviews of D3000, EOS 400D, EOS 450D as well as Sony’s A330. Those were pure jewels to my eyes at first sight.
Then I stumbled on this video review from cameralabs of 500D which almost aroused the feelings of “love at first sight” Checking for more reviews, it got confusing which to buy between D5000 & 500D. Digging more into this, after reading more professional review and seeing the trends of professional photographers I realized, lens play an utmost importance when you take the level towards professionalism. And this I would say was the biggest reason why I’m tending towards 500D, which would even satisfy my need of having of HD camera.
But final words they (D5000 and 500D) both are great cameras and winners to me for this budget. I’m just checking out the features of my cameras and within a week or two I’ll post the images over here. Till then watch this excellent review of the camera from cameralabs.com
